Solivox Labs (Pty) Ltd · Last updated September 2026
In short: Solivox Air shows how heavily polluted the outdoor air over
South African towns is, relative to each area's own clean baseline, measured from
satellite. It is information to help you decide when to look more closely — it is not
medical advice, not a health guideline, and not a regulatory compliance measurement.
1. What the readings are
Satellite, outdoor, area-wide. Readings come from the Copernicus
Sentinel-5P satellite and describe the outdoor air over roughly a 15 km radius around
each town centre. They do not describe the air inside any building.
A snapshot, not a daily average. The satellite passes over South
Africa once a day, around 13:30. Pollution at other times of day, including early
morning, is not captured.
Relative, not absolute. The 0–100 Outdoor Load Index compares a day
with each area's own clean baseline. Satellite measurements are atmospheric column
amounts, not ground-level concentrations, so the index cannot be compared with SANS,
WHO or any other health or legal limit.
Gaps are normal. Cloud, satellite scheduling and data processing
mean some days have no reading. Newly published readings are typically 3–5 days old.
2. Not medical, safety or compliance advice
Nothing on this site is medical advice or a substitute for it. If you or someone in
your care has symptoms, speak to a health professional. In an emergency, follow the
guidance of the authorities and emergency services. Solivox Air readings must not be
used as evidence of compliance or non-compliance with any air quality law, permit or
standard.
3. Availability and accuracy
We check every data update with an automated quality audit before it is published,
but satellite data can be incomplete or wrong, and the underlying data is supplied by
third parties who do not guarantee its availability. We provide the site and its
readings "as is", without any warranty that they are complete, accurate, current or
fit for a particular purpose.
4. Liability
To the extent permitted by South African law, Solivox Labs (Pty) Ltd is not liable for
any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, information on this site.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act
that cannot lawfully be limited.
5. Subscriptions and monitoring services
Paid area watching, building monitoring and sensor supply are provided under a
separate written agreement, which sets out what is included, the fees and each party's
responsibilities. Prices shown on this site are indicative until confirmed in writing.
6. Data sources and credits
Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2026. Copernicus Sentinel
data is provided free, full and open under the Copernicus data policy of the European
Union.
Reported incidents and figures are credited to their publishers where they appear.
